DESCRIPTION / INSTRUCTIONS

Tiger Balm is made from a secret herbal formulation that dates back to the times of the Chinese emperors.

Tiger balm was developed during the 1870s in Rangoon, Burma, by herbalist Aw Chu Kin, son of a Hakka herbalist in China, Aw Leng Fan.

His father had sent him to Rangoon in the 1860s to help in his uncle's herbal shop. Eventually, Aw Chu Kin himself set up a family business named Eng Aun Tong meaning "Hall of Everlasting Peace". On his deathbed in 1908,he asked his sons Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par to perfect the product.

By the 1920s, the sons had made it a very successful business empire in Burma with its runaway success, the Tiger Balm medicinal ointment.

Named after Aw Boon Haw whose name means "Gentle Tiger", Tiger Balm is a herbal formulation for external pain relief.

Tiger Balm is available in several varieties, the "Cold" Tiger Balm White (recommended for use with headaches) and the "Hot" Tiger Balm Red. The strongest version is called Tiger Balm Ultra.

We will talk about the White tiger balm:

The original White Tiger Balm composition:

Menthol - 8%
Camphor - 25%
Dementholised mint oil - 16%
Cajuput oil - 13%
Clove bud oil - 1,5

The remainder is a petroleum jelly and paraffin base. The packaging label states that the active ingredients are Menthol and Camphor.

Petroleum jelly and paraffin base are not useful for our skin, we will try these ingredients change in the natural oils.

The most important ingredients for the medicinal effectiveness for this is the Menthol crystals, Camphor crystals ( if you don't have Camphor crystals take a Camphor essential oil) and Cajuput essential oil.

This Karpura perfect from head pain (delete temples) to treat colds (rub the nasal passages), throat irritation heals (delete neck area), blowing symptoms treat, the treatment of bruises.

We need (50 ml):

Menthol crystals - 4 ml (1 teaspoon)
Camphor crystals - 12 ml (2,5 teaspoon)
Peppermint essential oil - 8 ml (160 drops)
Cajuput essential oil - 7 ml (140 drops)
Clove bud essential oil - 1ml (20 drops)
Beeswax - 1g (very small nugget)
Coconut oil - 9 ml (2 teaspoons)
Shea butter oil - 9 ml (2 teaspoon)

How to make homemade White Tiger balm:

Melt Beeswax in a double boiler, then add Coconut oil and Shea Butter oil.

When liquid and combined, take double boiler off the heat and add the Menthol crystals, the rest of the essential oils (essential oils to prepare in another jar - it is easier because we need a lot drops), and stir well.

Pour mixture immediately into a clean and sterile jar / container, and allow to cool / solidify before replacing the cap on the container. This is powerful stuff, so if you find yourself wanting a milder blend, just re - melt under low heat and add a bit more oils and Beeswax.

And that's it! You have a strong pain remover balm.
