Santalum Album or Indian Sandalwood is a small tropical tree, and is the most commonly known source of Sandalwood.
Sandalwood
is an evergreen, parasitic tree that burrows its roots into other trees
and it can grow up to 9 meters high and has a brown-gray trunk, many
smooth slender branches, leathery leaves and small pink-purple flowers.
It can take thirty to sixty years for a tree to reach full maturity.
That is when it can be harvested and distilled.
A Hydrosol (Floral Water) is the by-product of the essential oils distillation process. Once thought of as waste, Hydrosols contain all the therapeutic properties of essential oils, just at a lower concentration.
Sandalwood Distillate is extracted from East Indian Sandalwood (Santalum album) by the method of hydro distillation.
Indian Sandalwood Distillate has a rich, sweet and creamy buttery wood aroma that is emotionally calming and soothing.
The shelf life of hydrosols is generally up to 2 years or longer when properly stored in the refrigerator.
Suzanne Catty recommends blending with Lemon Verbena Distillate for a cooling after shave facial toner for men.
