Sea-Buckthorn Juice (Hippophae Rhamnoides) ☸ Ingredients ☸ Base / General

Sea-Buckthorn Juice (Hippophae Rhamnoides)BASE / GENERAL
Sea-Buckthorn Juice (Hippophae Rhamnoides), the common Sea Buckthorn, is by far the most widespread of the species in the genus, with the ranges of its eight subspecies extending from the Atlantic coasts of Europe across to northwestern Mongolia and northwestern China.

Sea-Buckthorn  branches are stiff and thorny, while the leaves are of a long, thin, silver color. The berries of Sea-Buckthorn, however, are small, orange, and only found on female plants.

When the berries are pressed, the resulting Sea-Buckthorn Juice separates into three layers: on top is a thick, orange cream, in the middle, a layer containing Sea-Buckthorn's characteristic high content of saturated and polyunsaturated fats, and the bottom layer is sediment and juice. Containing fat sources applicable for cosmetic purposes, the upper two layers can be processed for skin creams and liniments, whereas the bottom layer can be used for edible products such as syrup.

In ancient times, leaves and young branches from sea buckthorn were supposedly fed as a remedy to horses to support weight gain and appearance of the coat, thus leading to the name of the genus, Hippophae derived from Hippo (Horse), and Phaos (Shining).

Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima) ☸ Base oils ☸ Medicine / Health

Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima)MEDICINE / HEALTH
Almost 70% of Avocado oil consists of heart-healthy oleic acid, a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. This fatty acid is also the main component of Olive oil, and believed to be partly responsible for its health benefits.

Additionally, around 12% of avocado oil is saturated fat and about 13% is polyunsaturated fat. While Avocado oil has a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio (13:1), this shouldn't be of concern as the total amount of omega-6 is relatively low.

Black Tea (Camellia Sinensis) ☸ Plants ☸ Base / General

Black Tea (Camellia Sinensis)BASE / GENERAL
Black Tea and Green Tea is removed from the same tree.  Camellia Sinensis Assamica is a larger-leafed varietal of the tea plant that is typically used to produce black Tea. Originating in the Assam district of India, it grows in warm, moist climates and is prolific in sub-tropical forests.

Camellia Sinensis Sinensis is a smaller-leafed variety native to China that is typically used to make green and White Teas. It evolved as a shrub growing in sunny regions with drier, cooler climates. It thrives in mountainous regions because it has a high tolerance for cold.

What makes Black Tea different from Green Tea is that during the production process, the Tea leaves are allowed to fully oxidize before they are heat-processed and dried.

During oxidation, oxygen interacts with the Tea plant’s cell walls to turn the leaves the rich dark brown to black color that black tea leaves are famous for. Oxidation alters the flavor profile of a Black Tea as well, helping add malty, fruity or even smoky notes, depending on the Tea.
